Eurovision Song Contest History

Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest was first held way back in 1956. It was held in Lugano, Switzerland on May 24th of that year. Austria, The United Kingdom and Denmark missed the deadline and were not able to participate in the competition until the next year.

Back then, the Eurovision Song Contest was only open to solo artists. Group performers were not allowed until the 1970’s.

The scores awarded by each country to each artist have never been released which has led to speculation that it may have been not as honest as it could have been.

Lys Assia from Switzerland performed the winning entry titled “Refrain.” I am fairly sure that Switzerland has not yet managed another win.
