1 in 5 have Insomnia Here Are Tips To Beat It

Beating Insomnia Getting Back To Sleep

Are you are one of the unlucky 20% and struggle getting back to sleep? If so, here are some tips to start winning the fight against insomnia.

Do not start looking at the clock. That will likely make it more difficult to drift off. Instead, try counting slowly backwards from one hundred. This combats what is known as a “busy brain” and will help you relax your mind.

Your muscles may be tense without your realising it. So concentrate on relaxing everything starting with your toes and work slowly upwards. If you do this properly using slow deep breathing for each muscle group, (toes, feet, calves, thighs and butt), it will again aid in relaxing your mind and shutting out the days stresses.

Don’t pick up the phone and start playing a game or worse still, turning on the pc and doing some work!

If you are still not back to sleep after what seems like absolute ages, get up and go to another room. Sit in the comfiest chair and read a book. Don’t pick a book that you just will not be able to put down.

No books? Listen to some quiet, restful, soothing music. The type that you would hear at a day spa. Elysian Vibes by One World Music is one of my favourites.
